Privacy Policy for Boxedwine on macOS

Last updated: September 15, 2026

Boxedwine is an open-source project maintained by James Bryant. This policy covers Boxedwine on macOS, with separate information below for versions distributed outside the Mac App Store.

Mac App Store version

The Mac App Store version of Boxedwine does not collect personal information or app-usage data. It has no advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs, or Boxedwine accounts.

Wine and Wine’s Minesweeper are included with the app. Boxedwine does not download Wine packages, demo catalogs, icons, or games. Adding and launching your own Windows software does not contact Boxedwine’s servers. Software you run may make its own network connections, as explained below.

Your apps and files

Boxedwine stores your app library, imported Windows files, saved games, settings, and launch logs on your Mac. It does not upload these files or your library to us. Launch logs can contain file paths, program arguments, and output from Windows software.

Backups are saved to the location you choose. Permanently deleting an app in Boxedwine removes its Windows files from the library. Backups and original files stored elsewhere remain until you delete them separately.

Windows software you run

Windows apps and games run through Boxedwine may access the network, the shared clipboard, and folders you authorize. They may communicate with their publishers or other services. Their own privacy practices also apply; this policy describes Boxedwine’s handling of data.

Support and your choices

If you open a website link from Boxedwine, such as this privacy policy or the GitHub issue tracker, your browser contacts that site. Its hosting logs and privacy practices apply. Visits to boxedwine.org use the hosting described below.

Boxedwine does not automatically send launch logs to the project. If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond and resolve your request. Review logs and screenshots before sharing them. Issues posted on GitHub are public.

Support correspondence is kept as needed to address your request. To ask about your information or request deletion of information held by the project, email boxedwine@danoon.net. Information controlled by another service is subject to that service’s policies.

Apple diagnostics and beta testing

Apple handles App Store diagnostics under its own privacy settings and policies. If you test a beta through TestFlight, Apple shares testing information with the developer, including crash reports, usage information, tester details, and feedback you submit. We use this information to troubleshoot and improve Boxedwine. See Apple’s TestFlight privacy information.

Optional tips

The Mac App Store version offers optional one-time tips through Apple’s in-app purchase system. All features remain free. Apple processes the payment under its own privacy policy; Boxedwine does not receive your payment-card details. The app checks and finishes transactions through StoreKit on your Mac and does not send your purchase history to Boxedwine’s servers. Apple provides sales and financial reports to the developer.

Other versions and website downloads

Wine and demo downloads are available in GitHub and Jenkins builds, but not in the Mac App Store version. When you choose a download in those builds, Boxedwine contacts boxedwine.org over HTTPS. These requests do not use cookies, stored web credentials, or a Boxedwine account identifier. The demo list and its icons are included in those builds.

Our website host, DreamHost, records access and error logs for website visits and downloads. These can include your IP address, the requested file or URL, request time, response status, and standard request headers such as the user agent. A download URL can identify the demo or Wine package requested.

DreamHost provides traffic reports based on these logs, including request counts, device categories, and approximate locations derived from IP addresses. This information supports hosting, troubleshooting, security, and understanding traffic. DreamHost documents a default retention period of seven days for raw HTTP logs. We do not sell these records or use them for targeted advertising. See DreamHost traffic reports and DreamHost’s privacy practices.
