JURASSIC WAR - OFFLINE SKIRMISH

Open Multiplayer Game, then choose Skirmish (the former Modem button).
Setup appears inside the game window, using the original menu artwork.
Use the mouse or Tab/arrow keys, Enter to choose, and Escape to cancel.
The map preview shows terrain and numbered tribe locations in tribe colours.
Your marker has a white border. AI locations are hidden by default. Turn on
Show AI locations under the preview to see the selected computer opponents.
This only changes the preview; it does not reveal enemies during the match.

Enable Random AI starts to assign computer tribes to different available
starting sites. Each tribe gets its own site. Shuffle chooses a new player
location and, with Random AI starts enabled, also reshuffles the AI sites.
With that option off, AI tribes keep their original sites and Shuffle moves
only your tribe to an unoccupied location. Shuffle is then disabled if all
other sites are occupied. Save/load and Restart preserve the chosen sites.

Choose one of the 20 original multiplayer maps and your tribe. Select one
to seven computer opponents, then press Start. Each tribe fights for itself.
Eliminate every rival tribe to win. Neutral wildlife does not count as a rival.

Event enables the original multiplayer special-item drops. Occasionally a
special item appears at a random valid location, with the original announcement.
It is off by default. Saves, loading and Restart preserve the selected setting;
older skirmish saves keep events off.

Equal AI start is available with Modern AI. It gives computer tribes the same
Starting units count and normal starting stats as human tribes, without their
prebuilt bases. Tribe-specific unit types are retained. Original AI keeps its
authored starts and the option is disabled. Save/load and Restart remember it.

Fog offers Classic (original exploration), On (modern line-of-sight fog), or
Off (fully revealed map). It applies equally to the player and Modern AI and is
remembered by saves and Restart.

Starting units (2-20) apply to your tribe and, with Equal AI start, AI tribes.
With Modern AI, Starting food
(0-9999) applies equally to your tribe and every active AI. Original AI keeps
the map's original computer food. With Equal AI start off, computer tribes retain the bases and forces
at their assigned sites. A shuffled tribe receives its own specialist
training buildings (or Barracks for tribes without specialists), preserving
the site's building positions and valid footprints. Unselected tribes are removed; neutral wildlife stays
on the map.

Skirmish is local single player and requires no network or modem settings.
Normal save/load and autosave work. Restart rebuilds the same map with the
same starting choices. Victory and defeat now appear inside the game, using
the original menu textures and font. The result shows the map, your tribe,
elapsed battle time and surviving units/buildings. Choose New skirmish to
return to setup or Main menu to leave. Campaign NEXT/JUMP shortcuts are disabled.

TCP/IP games remain under Multiplayer Game > TCP/IP.

Observe AI battle starts a read-only skirmish with every active tribe using
the selected AI. It works with Original AI and the three modern AI levels.
The anchor tribe receives a viable starting party and food; authored AI bases
are retained. Camera movement and the game menu remain available; unit orders
and selection are blocked. Saved skirmish settings preserve observation mode.
F5 opens the shared spectator team/composition table, F6 toggles the battle
director, F7 shows clickable events, F12 opens broadcast view options, and F1
hides the observer controls. Use MENU or Esc to leave, save, load or restart.
AI difficulty is selected directly in setup. Advanced Options supplies the
initial AI preference; you can override it for each skirmish.
See AI-README.txt for behavior, campaign/network rules and the original AI audit.
Install the updated launcher, _PWAR02.TRS, and language packs together.

Difficulty in the setup selects Original Easy/Normal/Hard or Modern
Easy/Normal/Hard. This choice is explicit and retained in saves and restarts.
Original Normal is the initial choice unless Advanced specifies Modern AI.

Setup correction (1.10X, 14 September 2026)
The first lobby opening inherits the Advanced AI preference. Canceling that
opening and reopening now retains the inherited difficulty. Explicitly
accepted setup choices continue to be retained.

CUSTOM MAPS (1.11C)

Choose the Custom maps tab for standalone .jwmap files in GAME/CustomMaps.
Press Refresh after adding maps. An example map is included.
Custom maps use authored tribe positions; at least two living tribes are needed.
Save/load and Restart retain the original version in CustomMaps/Cache.
Keep that complete folder with custom saves. See CustomMaps/README.txt.

1.11G layout and mixed positions
--------------------------------
Map, Tribes and Rules now have separate pages with larger controls. The Start
and Cancel buttons remain available on every page. Original-map Shuffle keeps
each tribe's production recipes and converts foreign starting buildings to
appropriate tribal buildings, including Armory A/B. Original AI decision
making and normal, unshuffled authored starts are unchanged.
